Created to encourage burlesque performers who have little or no experience in producing to put on their own show, Driver's Seat offers guidance from two of NYC’s top burlesque producers (Calamity Chang of Room 69, Spanking The LES, and Les Fleurs de Shanghai, and Jonny Porkpie of Pinchbottom, Grab My Junk International Burlesque Game Show, and Dead Sexy). Since March 26, 2013, the Parkside Lounge has been taken over every other week by a fledgeling producer who creates her own concept and title, chooses and books the performers, and runs the show. Porkpie and Chang ride shotgun to ease the bumps in the road and help steer around the potholes that can plague new producers.
Producer/Performers Gather to Celebrate One Year of Performers Producing

The New York School of Burlesque Driver’s Seat new producer mentoring program celebrates first anniversary of encouraging neophyte impresarios!
In 2013, producer/performers Calamity Chang and Jonny Porkpie joined forces with the New York School of Burlesque to create Driver’s Seat, a program intended to encourage burlesque performers who had little or no experience in producing to put on their own show. The first neophyte impresario took over that stage at the Parkside Lounge on March 26, and a fledgling producer has presented a show every two weeks since, with Porkpie and Chang riding shotgun to ease the bumps in the road and help steer around the potholes that can plague new producers.
Exactly one year later, the burlesque world is 23 shows and 20 new producers the richer, and Driver’s Seat celebrates its first anniversary with an epic event featuring over a dozen of the Drivers from the first year, presenting the act they performed in the show they produced.
After taking part in Driver’s Seat, many performers have continued to produce, frequently bringing the show they created as part of the program to other venues. “Producing a show is a fantastic experience for any performer to have” says Minx Aracana, whose show THE BROOD: Bugged Out Burlesque bowed in August. “I definitely feel that I have grown as a performer from learning more about the production side of the craft. Being a producer can also mean creating an opportunity to really let your freak flag fly, and with that in mind, I can't wait to bring some of the other crazy concepts I have marinating to life”
In addition to the cavalcade of past participants, Porkpie and Chang (who as mentors have recused themselves from performing in the the shows) will undress at Driver’s Seat for the very first time. On March 26, from 8:00pm until late, join The New York School of Burlesque, Calamity Chang, Jonny Porkpie, and Beelzebabe, Bunny Buxom, Dolly Debutante, Fancy Feast, Minx Arcana, Melody Jane, Nina La Voix, Pam Demonium, Plucky Charms, Poison Ivory, Miss Southern Comfort, Wae Messed, Zoe Ziegfeld as they celebrate one year of putting performers in the Driver’s Seat.
